Introduction
To lead and control all mechanical workshop activities, including equipment repairs, fabrication, machining, welding and facilities maintenance, ensuring high-quality workmanship, safe execution, cost control and supporting plant overall equipment efficiency improvements.
Job description
• Coordinate the planning and tracking of labour, equipment, spares, materials, services, cost and recording
of work history.
• Ensure that workshop team objectives are constantly being met by training, assigning, scheduling and
coaching employees;
• Perform RCA’s in line with agreed triggers to ascertain failures.
• Coordinate the repairs and maintenance of material handling equipment (i.e., Forklifts, bale clamps, reel
clamps, etc).
• Coordinate the maintenance of all plant facilities including buildings, perimeter fencing, fire sprinkler
systems and steel structures.
• Source quotes for repairs and replacements of equipment in area of responsibility.
Minimum requirements
• Minimum Matric/Grade 12.
• Qualified artisan – Fitter/ Fitter and Turner advantageous
• Minimum 10 years post-trade experience in heavy industry.
• Minimum 3 years workshop experience.
• Strong understanding of rotating equipment, machining principles, tolerances and fits.
• Computer skills (Ms Office) and ERP (JDE) systems knowledge advantageous.
• Good communication skills, written and verbal.
• People Management and Problem-solving skills required.
• Understanding of SHERQ Regulations.
