Job description
Assist with routine maintenance and calibration of ABB and Honeywell QCS scanners, sensors and profilers.
Perform troubleshooting on ABB AC450/AC800M DCS systems, Siemens PLC systems, and associated field instrumentation.
Assist with tuning, optimisation, and monitoring of control loops to improve process stability.
Perform loop checks, verification, and diagnostic testing of instruments and control loops.
Respond to automation‑related breakdowns to identify root causes and restore system functionality.
Support shift teams with automation and instrumentation issues affecting quality or machine runnability.
Participate in shutdown activities, including QCS/DCS maintenance, sensor cleaning, calibration, firmware updates, and inspections.
Assist in identifying automation opportunities to improve machine runnability, energy use, and product quality.
Support small improvement projects involving new instrumentation, control logic changes, or QCS/DCS enhancements.
Ensure adherence to all safety and lock‑out procedures when working on electrical or control equipment.
Assist with incident investigations involving automation or instrumentation faults.
Minimum requirements
Matric/Grade 12 with Mathematics & Physical Science.
S1 – S4 or National Diploma in Light Current, Electrical Engineering, Automation, or Control Systems.
2–5 years’ experience in industrial automation, instrumentation, or process control (preferably heavy industry or paper).
Experience with:
ABB DCS (AC450 / AC800M)
QCS platforms (ABB/Honeywell)
Siemens PLC systems
Communication networks (Profibus, Profinet, Ethernet).
Ability to interpret instrumentation and electrical drawings (P&IDs, loop diagrams).
